Indeed the artist creates emotion, even if it’s unsettling. It is and it is not documentary. It is if the people looking at pictures recognize the emptiness. It could be rather an inner empty state of the viewer that could resonate with the landscape he/she is seeing. It could be a scene from memory.
My personal response was a feeling of incertitude , which was a feeling from the past I felt when I visited Kansas City in America in a Saturday morning, and there was nobody on the street and no cars running , just parked. And I was just wondering: was the city bombarded or what? The feeling of insecurity was very high, anything could happen.
So a memory is recalled , yes the scene is real and it is documentary in a personal sense.
